Important Financial Aid Deadlines
October 1: FAFSA — This typically opens in early fall. The FAFSA is the federal application U.S. students submit to receive financial aid. Visit the FAFSA page here.
December 1 - February 15: Private Scholarships and Grants. By completing one application, which is open from Dec 1 - Feb. 15, students have access to an array of scholarships – each with its own set of criteria for consideration. Explore Bowie State scholarships here.
March 1: Institutional Need-Based Funds — You may be eligible for additional aid if your application demonstrates financial need. Bowie State provides “in-house” (or “institutional”) need-based financial aid for eligible applicants, and this is the deadline to apply for it.
June 1: Maryland State Programs — If you’re applying to colleges as a resident of the state of Maryland, your aid application is due by June 1. Find Maryland scholarships on their page here.
Types of Financial Aid
You may be eligible for many different types of aid. While grants are public-sponsored, some aid resources, such as loans and scholarships, are made available by private groups and involve some research. Read our aid guide below.

They typically don’t require repayment and are awarded as part of a university-sponsored program, though you can find scholarships from any number of organizations or websites. At Bowie State, your undergraduate application includes automatic scholarship consideration, which means one less application to fill out!
