Message from the Vice President

 GREETINGS BULLDOG NATION:

Bowie State University Athletics continues to race to excellence, developing a culture of success for our student-athletes with a sense of urgency through academic success, social enhancement and quality athletic participation.

During the 2018-19 academic year, our athletic programs continued to shine on and off the field of competition with outstanding performances in several sports. The football team captured its first CIAA championship and competed in their third NCAA football playoffs. BSU hosted the University of West Alabama in the first round, defeating the Tigers by a score of 41-35 for our first football NCAA post-season victory. The Bulldogs eventually lost to the national champions Valdosta State. “Air” Amir Hall, our record setting quarterback, became the CIAA all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns and total offense yards from scrimmage, while also repeating as the Black College Football Player of the Year and Black College Offensive Player of the Year.

The women’s basketball program finished the season with a record of 22-5, and earned a NCAA at-large playoff berth. The women’s bowling team continues to roll capturing their fifth consecutive CIAA championship, and ninth overall, advancing to the NCAA playoffs once again. And the CIAA track and field championship returned to BSU in May.

Despite all of these athletic accomplishments, victories are finite while success is eternal. BSU athletics seeks success in all three phases of our mission, academic excellence, student success and institutional viability.  The AD’s honor roll recognizes student-athletes who earn a term GPA of 3.20 or better and “Got Grades” is our AD Honor Roll motto. In the fall of 2018, 87 student-athletes received “Got Grades” recognition. Together we can create victories that are successful through the sustainable confluence of efforts.

To achieve sustainable success, we seek your support of our 8th annual Bulldog Golf Classic as a sponsor and golfer. This year, we will tee off at the beautiful Oak Creek Golf Club with an exciting day of golf and camaraderie among friends. If you need help with your swing, we are also hosting a golf clinic. The funds raised from the golf tournament will help BSU athletics continue our journey of success and provide the necessary funding for student-athlete development, academic support and community enrichment.

As we continue to improve our infrastructure, we have strategic needs moving forward. Every dollar raised will be allocated with great purpose to ensure the greatest return on your generosity. If you cannot attend, please consider making a monetary donation in support of this worthy cause. I look forward to seeing you on October 8.

Go Bulldogs!
