Colonel Robert Myles

Colonel Robert W. Myles Jr. became the Senior Military Assistant (Acquisition) for the Deputy Chief Management Officer, Office of the Secretary of Defense in July 2014. He is responsible for advising the political appointed Deputy Chief Management Officer of the Secretary of Defense in the exercise of policy development, planning, resource management, fiscal and program evaluation responsibilities.    

Colonel Myles entered the Army as an Infantry Officer after graduating from Bowie State University. He received a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Troy State University and a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from National Defense University. He is also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces; the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; the Training with Industry Program at Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, Florida; the Senior Acquisition Course; the Defense Acquisition University Program Manager’s Course; the Armor Officer Advance Course; and the Infantry Officer Basic Course. He is a certified member of the Defense Acquisition Corps.

He served in a wide variety of operational command and staff positions during his career. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Commander for DCMA Southern Europe; Commander for DCMA Afghanistan; Executive Officer and Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of the Army, Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Army, Product Manager for Soldier Survivability, Program Executive Office Soldier; Procurement Officer for the Army Materiel Command, Assistant Product Manager for Information Warfare, Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors and Combat Developer for the Army Infantry Center.

Colonel Myles’ awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with (2nd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Army Parachutist Badge, Army Ranger Tab, Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge. Colonel Myles also received the Military Service Award during the Bowie State University Sesquicentennial Founders Day Awards Gala last year.
