Bulldogs Rally in the Fourth Quarter to Beat New Haven 27 – 20

(BOWIE, Md.) – The Bowie State University football team engineered a win in the final seconds of Saturday’s season-opening game coming from behind to beat New Haven 27-20. Quarterback Dion Golatt Jr. threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Kwincy Hall to clinch the win for the Bulldogs and interim head football coach Kyle Jackson. 

With the win, Bowie State extends its regular season winning streak to 21 games at home, dating back to the 2017 season. Although the Bulldogs took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the visitors scored 10 points in the second quarter that gave them a 10-7 halftime lead. Bowie State went scoreless in the second and third quarters before the offensive unit began to play with a rhythm in the fourth quarter, outscoring New Haven 20-3.

Offensively, Golatt Jr. threw for 266 yards with 17 completions and three touchdowns while running back Sam Doku had eight carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Keshane Hinckley caught seven passes for 106-yards and a touchdown. On the defense, Keith Williams and Shawn Lewis set the tone with each player tallying five tackles. Ellison Jordan and Cameron Chesley each contributed two sacks in the win.

Saturday’s victory was interim head coach Kyle Jackson’s first at the helm of Bowie State’s football program. The team is on the road this week visiting Saginaw Valley State University on Sept. 10 at Wickes Stadium at 1 p.m. View live stream of the game.
