Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Team Prepares for National Championship

University’s Participation Continues to Foster Academic Excellence and National Recognition

(BOWIE, Md.)—Bowie State University’s Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) team recently completed another competitive season, securing a spot among 32 other HBCUs at the National Championship Tournament in Torrance, Calif., in April 2025. 

HCASC, an academic quiz-bowl competition, offers students a platform for advanced learning, while fostering lifelong friendships and professional development. 

“It is a seed that keeps on growing and it is amazing,” said Dr. Shirelle Briscoe, assistant vice president for transfer and general student advocacy at Bowie State and the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge campus coordinator. “The Challenge allows students to secure internships, win financial prizes, and compete at a high academic level while expanding their networks with peers and industry professionals.” 

Since joining the HCASC in 1992, Bowie State has earned national recognition and built a strong program legacy. Several alumni have gone on to work for Honda, further highlighting the university’s enduring impact. A notable achievement came in 2017, when the team placed as the first-runner-up in the National Championship. 

"As a member of the team, I'm gaining invaluable experience by participating in the competition," said Marva English, a sophomore majoring in psychology from Houston, Texas. "The BSU community is very nurturing and supports the team and our efforts to bring a national championship to the university."
