President Breaux Honored as Charm City Champion

Bowie State University President Aminta H. Breaux has been recognized as a Charm City Champion at the 2025 Visit Baltimore Tourism Awards, celebrating leaders who make a lasting impact on both tourism and their communities.
“This honor is especially meaningful because it reflects the power of partnership — a value that Bowie State University holds dear,” said Aminta H. Breaux, president of Bowie State University. “The collaboration among the city of Baltimore, Visit Baltimore, the CIAA and Bowie State University not only showcases the excitement and energy of CIAA basketball but also the economic and cultural vitality that Baltimore brings to the world stage.”
The annual awards highlight individuals advancing Baltimore’s hospitality and tourism industries. The recognition came just one week after Bowie State unveiled a street sign with Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott for the university’s 160th anniversary. “Bowie State University Way” honors where the university was founded in 1865 — a fitting tribute to Bowie State’s enduring legacy in the city where it all began.
President Breaux received the Charm City Champion Award for her vision and commitment to strengthening the connection between community development and tourism. Under her leadership, Bowie State has expanded partnerships that promote innovation, economic growth and civic engagement across the region.
As president of Bowie State and outgoing chair of the CIAA Board of Directors, Dr. Breaux has been one of Baltimore’s strongest advocates as the city continues to host the CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. Her enthusiasm for Baltimore is evident in every interview and community event, both on and off the court.
Throughout her career, Dr. Breaux has championed the advancement of historically Black colleges and universities. As president of the CIAA Presidents Council, she played a pivotal role in securing Baltimore as the tournament’s home through 2029, ensuring its continued growth and positive impact on the city.
