The Collective Delivers Captivating Dance Performances

Choreographer Khaleah Moon Brinson Explains Why It’s Important

(BOWIE, Md.)—Bowie State University’s student dance ensemble, The Collective, captivated audiences with two nights of powerful performances at the Dionne Warwick Theater, showcasing movement and storytelling under the direction of Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance Jennifer Dorsey. The group presented a dynamic mix of ensemble and solo pieces, exploring themes of culture, identity, and self-expression. 

Choreographer Khaleah Moon Brinson debuted Potion, blending modern, classical ballet, and African dance to create a mystical love story.  

“I joined The Collective this year as a senior, and before graduation I wanted to be able to share my choreography that I’ve been too shy to share thus far,” Brinson said. “When I first heard the song Red Potion by Rema, it gave me a very mysterious and mystical vibe and made me think of my favorite Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”  

Brinson portrayed Puck, the fairy, surrounded by dancers embodying enchanted lovers and villagers. “I simply let the music and chanting in the song use my movements,” she said. 

From vibrant group routines to introspective solo works, the performances reflected the dedication of every dancer and The Collective’s commitment to artistic expression through movement.
