Business Information Systems

Enhance organizations and improve business processes using cutting-edge technology. With a concentration in business information systems, you will learn how to bridge the gap between technology and business using computer-based global information systems.

Return to the Department of Management Information Systems

Our program is not just about learning the interplay between business and technology. It’s also designed to optimize your verbal and written communication skills to help others understand how business information systems work— a critical asset as you collaborate with educators, clients, investors, partners and managers. As a student, you will:

  • Master core competencies in business and management.
  • Explore emerging information technologies and techniques, such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, cognitive computing, machine learning, cloud computing, blockchain and Internet of Things (IOT).
  • Understand the global, ethical and social issues related to information systems and their applications.
  • Delve into data analytics and data processing workflow modeling using advanced software, including Tableau, IBM SPSS, Weka and Alteryx and Oracle Data Modeler.

Our class sizes are small—an average 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio—and our experienced, accessible faculty are the keystone of our students’ success. At Bowie State, our educators encourage students to think strategically about their future, guiding them through processes like applying for top security clearances and pursuing specialized certifications.
