Re: Protocols During Campus Telework Status
Date: March 18, 2020
The purpose of this message is to provide greater clarity on procedural protocols that we will follow during this period of operating with only essential staff necessary to maintain services for students remaining on campus and key institutional functions.
At this time and until further notice, ALL STAFF, including managers and administrators, whose duties are able to be performed remotely are now required to telework. This will enable us to significantly limit the number of persons on campus and the threat of spreading the disease.
How you will get paid if not able to telework
Exempt and Non-Exempt Staff
Staff members whose duties cannot be performed via telework, will be required to report to campus for alternate work assignments or granted administrative leave as determined by their supervisor. Any employee on preapproved accrued leave will continue in the leave status.
Non-Exempt Staff - Special Consideration
Any nonexempt staff employee who is required by your supervisor to come in will be paid straight time, plus their choice of comp time or a cash payment, equivalent to the hours of administrative leave granted to other employees in their same classification, building or unit.
Contingent I, Hourly/Adjunct Faculty, Student Employees and Graduate Assistants
Staff in these categories who are unable to perform their duties, either in person or via telework, due to the circumstances, may be granted an excused absence without any loss of pay. In this case, the employee would record on their web timesheet the hours they would have normally worked. Supervisors are to review timesheets for accuracy before approving.
Contingent II Employees
Contingent II employees who are unable to perform their duties, either in person or via telework, due to the circumstances, may be granted an excused absence without any loss of pay after they have exhausted all of their earned leave. In this case, the employee would record on their web timesheet the hours they would have normally worked. Supervisors are to review timesheets for accuracy before approving.
No employee who is immuno-compromised or has an underlying health condition that places them at higher risk for severe complications from COVID-19 will be required to report to campus. Employees may contact Human Resources confidentially to request an excuse based on their health condition and be allowed to use sick leave. Supervisors will be notified of the request.
Staff who cannot work due to their own or family member’s illness, the need to self-isolate or be quarantined, or to take care of dependent children due to school or daycare closings may use accrued sick leave or advanced sick leave without regard to their years of service.
Please report to your supervisor and contact your doctor if you begin to experience any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever and cough or shortness of breath, or are exposed to someone who has tested positive for the disease.
Thank you for your flexibility and responsiveness in dealing with this continuously developing environment. Please continue to monitor for new messages and updates to the Coronavirus Update webpage.
