Return to Campus Plan

Keeping You Safe

Bowie State University is working to plan a return to on-campus learning and working after COVID-19 restrictions for the fall 2020 semester, using a phased approach to reduce the number of people on campus and protect the health and well-being of the students, employees and the public. Planning proceeds with full understanding that developments surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and local and state responses are fluid. We must be prepared to adjust and adapt as changing circumstances may require.

Initial Decisions

The initial planning process resulted in the following key decisions that provided the framework for implementation teams to develop execution plans:

Academic Instruction & Support

  • The Bowie State fall semester begins Monday, August 31 with a mix of in-person classes, classes that use in-person and virtual methods, as well as fully remote classes.
  • First-year students will receive priority for in-person classes to aid in their transition to college life.
  • All classes will be delivered remotely after the Thanksgiving break.
  • Additional support for instructional design and online teaching will be provided for faculty over the summer.

Residential Housing

  • Only single-occupancy rooms will be offered in all residential communities.
  • First-year students will be given priority for on-campus housing.

Student & Employee Health

  • No employees or students will return to campus until the capacity for symptom monitoring and appropriate PPE is in place.
  • Options for teleworking and remote classes will be available for those who cannot return to campus because of risk factors or the need to care for family members.
  • Increased sanitation and physical modification will be made to classrooms, gathering spaces and high-traffic offices serving the campus community.
