Goals and Objectives
The goals and objectives of Thurgood Marshall Library Student Advisory Committee are to guide and support the development and implementation of library policies, services, and resources that enhance the educational experience for all users. The committee ensures the library meets the diverse needs of students, faculty, and the community by promoting access to information, fostering an inclusive environment, and encouraging the integration of innovative technologies and pedagogies. It aims to align library initiatives with institutional goals, advocate for necessary funding and resources, and evaluate the library's impact on academic success and lifelong learning.
Responsibility
According to the Academic Senate Constitution, the responsibilities of the Library Advisory Committee include:
- Serve as an information channel between the library, faculty, and students for program and service development.
- Recommend purchases to advance the technological environment within the library.
- Suggest ways to improve the student experience at Thurgood Marshall Library.
- Provide input and feedback on library initiatives and strategies.
- Offer a forum for reviewing and discussing new library initiatives.
- Provide an annual report to the Academic Senate.
- Evaluate the impact of actions and purchases resulting from recommendations.
- Advocate for university resources to support library collections and services.
- Attend monthly meetings to share and provide updates.
Meeting Time and Frequency
The Library Advisory Committee meets on the last Wednesday of the month. (Day is subject to change)
Committee Members
The Thurgood Marshall Library student advisory committee's members will consist of elected students from different colleges and major organizations on the Bowie State Campus including SGA and GSA. A library staff who will represent the Thurgood Marshal Library, and Faculty members, and an Alumni who is also a community member.
Voting Members
Voting members will be one individual from a represented group within the advisory committee.
