Testing Emergency Siren System

As part of increased campus safety measures, regular testing of the university’s emergency siren system will shift to the second Wednesday of each month, beginning on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m., a time when the highest number of people are typically on campus. Tests were previously conducted on Saturdays.

When the siren sounds outside of this set testing period, it signals an emergency situation on campus and will be followed by instructions through the Bowie Electronic Emergency System (BEES). If you are not receiving BEES Alerts, please sign up at  https://bowiestate.info/bees

The test will be preceded by a public address announcement that the siren will be tested. The siren will sound for 30 seconds and be followed by an announcement that the test is completed. Additional information about responding to the siren will be included in upcoming public safety training and community talks to be conducted by Campus Police.

This is just one small step in a comprehensive review of campus safety and mental health resources. The input of students, faculty and staff is important in this process.
