II - 1.20 - Policy on Evaluation and the Performance of Faculty
I. Policy and Purpose
All tenure-track faculty shall be evaluated annually, and tenured faculty shall undergo post-tenure review, consistent with Board of Regents policy.
This policy is part of a larger faculty development program, designed to enhance the professional abilities of the faculty as teachers, scholars, and members of the academic community. Additional, such evaluation data shall be considered in decisions on promotion, merit pay, and other rewards.
II. Applicability
A. Scope
This overall evaluation shall include The Faculty Planning and Professional Development Report and focus on teaching (65-75%), scholarship/research (15-25%), and service (5-15%).
B. Eligibility

- All tenure-track faculty shall be evaluated annually.
- Each tenured faculty member shall be reviewed at least once every five (5) years.
C. Responsibility
The Department Chair and Dean of the School shall implement the School's evaluation system in accordance with the procedure below.
III. Guidelines and Standards
A. Each faculty member shall be evaluated annually by the Department Chair, usually in the Spring Semester, using the evaluation instrument approved for the School.
B. Each faculty member shall be evaluated annually by his/her peer(s), usually in the Spring Semester, using the evaluation instrument approved for the School.
C. Each faculty member shall be evaluated annually by their students during the Fall and Spring semesters, using SUMMA or the evaluation instrument approved for the School.
IV. Results
The University will have an objective system by which faculty performance will be evaluated and professional growth enhanced. Additionally, the Department Chair and the Dean will have received data on which to advise faculty and on which to base personnel decisions.
