A Message from the President
Our 157th Commencement Ceremony
Dear Bowie State University Campus Community,
Last Friday marked another milestone in the history of Bowie State University as we watched nearly 700 students walk across the stage to take their place in the world.
On behalf of the administration and our Spring 2022 graduates, thank you for the time, effort and dedication that went into making our 157th Commencement ceremony a success! This was our first time being back fully in-person for the ceremony in two years, which required many individuals and departments to work hard to prepare the campus for our graduates and their families and friends.
Thank you to Conference and Event Services including Annette Wedderburn and Chandra Hicks De’Jesus for leading the commencement planning committee, which played an integral role in the execution of a wonderful event for our graduates. Committee members included:

Additionally, I want to recognize the students who participated on the program including members of the BSU ROTC, the BSU University Choir, the BSU Concert Band, Senior Class President Akira White, Graduate Student Association Vice President Liberty Deffenbaugh and Student Regent Ayotola Oludayo. Finally, much is owed to the staff across the campus and I especially want to thank our campus safety personnel, logistics team and groundskeepers who ensured the safety and well-being of the campus as well as the look and service provided was outstanding.
Thank you all for continuing on our Racing to Excellence journey! We appreciate your commitment to the success of the next generation of BSU leaders. You truly embody what it means to be Bowie BOLD!
