Bowie State Receives Largest-Ever Gift of $25 Million from Philanthropist

I am very pleased to share the tremendous news that Bowie State University has received a $25,000,000 gift from philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott – the largest single gift in the university’s history – as part of her effort to support 384 select organizations across the country in extraordinary ways in 2020.

We are honored and grateful for this gift that will help transform the university, enabling greater investment in student financial support, advances in academic excellence and innovation, and a substantial increase in the university endowment. It will propel achievement of our Racing to Excellence goals and position the university to advance the hopes and dreams of our students and their communities.

The generosity of Ms. Scott is particularly commendable for its focus on elevating the attention of philanthropists to the needs of organizations that do great work for communities, recognizing the important role of education. As we embark on our largest-ever fundraising effort, The Campaign for Excellence, her gift serves as a catalyst for energize others to give to BSU to continuously sustain Maryland’s first HBCU.
