Condolences on the Passing of Professor Emeritus Dr. Robert Ward
It is with great sadness that I share news of the passing of Dr. Robert Ward, long-time professor in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, who served the university with great honor and distinction in many roles. His leadership was visible to the entire campus community in his stately presence as the Mace Bearer and Grand Marshal of the university’s ceremonial academic events, including Commencement and Founders Day. He also served on numerous university-wide committees, including as chair of the Appointment, Rank and Tenure Committee.
Dr. Ward was widely regarded as a champion of students throughout his nearly 43-year tenure at BSU. He inspired students to strive to achieve their dreams of becoming artists, urging them to constantly work to refine their crafts in the visual arts. He was also a valued mentor and friend to colleagues in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts and others in the BSU community.
Services will be held as follows at the Howell Funeral Home in Jessup, MD:
- Thursday, March 11, 2021 – Viewing, 4 to 6 p.m.
