A Message from the President
Temporary Salary Reduction Plan Cancelled
We have some good news to share about our ongoing efforts to balance the university’s budget in response to the $3.9 million reduction in state appropriations. I am pleased to announce that we have cancelled the temporary salary reduction plan, as a result of an increase in enrollment this fall.
With cancellation of the temporary salary reduction plan, we will also revert to the original university calendar. The university will now be open on 11/25, 12/15, 12/22 and 12/23.
In spite of the challenges presented by the pandemic, Bowie State generated $700,000 in additional revenue from increased enrollment that can now be used to offset the planned temporary salary reduction. The unexpected revenue will cover the $420,000 that it would have provided. A number of other measures have been employed to absorb the remainder of the $3.9 million shortfall.
We must remember that the state’s financial picture continues to fluctuate, so we don’t know what the future holds. For now, we are pleased to be able to remove any immediate impact on employees’ pay.
I want to thank all of our faculty and staff for your support and understanding as we work through the uncertainty of our current financial situation.
