A Message from the President
Spring Commencement Volunteers Needed
Colleagues, it is with great anticipation that we again approach Spring Commencement, one of the most important days in the life of the university. It is a celebration of the accomplishments of not only the students who will receive their degrees, but the faculty and staff who have played a major role in stewarding their achievement. No matter what position you hold at the university, the ultimate goal of your work is the successful graduation of our students.
The commencement ceremony on Friday, May 20 offers another opportunity for you to show your support for our students and their families by serving as a volunteer information specialist to assist guests. Welcoming families and celebrating our students is the singular most important task for all of us on this day. I encourage supervisors to approve the participation of any staff who wish to volunteer, provided it does not compromise office coverage.
Individuals who are interested in volunteering must fill out the Commencement Volunteer form by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13.
- Volunteers must make the following commitment:
- Participate in a brief 20-minute virtual training session on Wednesday, May 18 at 1 p.m.
- Arrive to Commencement no later than 7:45 a.m.
- Exhibit a friendly, outgoing personality
During the Spring Commencement Volunteer virtual training session, you will get detailed information about what is needed, what to expect, and event day schedule.
Please email egordon@bowiestate.edu no later than Tuesday, May 17 if you are not able to attend the virtual meeting and would still like to volunteer.
Thank you in advance to those who will contribute their time and energy for the commencement ceremony. I know that you will help make this an extraordinary event for our graduates and guests.
