A Message from the President
Staying Focused in Troubling Times
Bowie State University and Historically Black Colleges and University across the country have experienced some deeply unsettling days this week and over the past month. Repeated threats of violence against our campuses have disrupted normal operations but not deterred us from our core mission of providing quality education and support for the development of our students.
My priority at Bowie State is the safety and wellbeing of our BSU students and every member of our campus community. Our BSU police officers are continuing their patrols across the campus, but we must all be vigilant and attuned to observe and report anything of a suspicious nature on campus. If you see something, please call 301-860-4040 to reach campus police.
Our Counseling Center is available for any student feeling distressed by the recent events, but I encourage everyone to extend extra grace to listen to concerns and support one another as we move forward. Also, please be sure that you have registered for BEES Alerts, our Bowie Electronic Emergency System, to receive text and email alerts of emergency situations on campus. You must renew your registration annually.
I want to thank the many members of the law enforcement community that responded to the BSU campus on Monday to quickly investigate and assure the safety of our students and the entire campus community. Federal officials with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security are actively investigating the incidents that occurred across the country to identify those responsible. We look forward to the outcome of their investigation.
