A Message from the President
Supporting the Ukrainian People
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
This quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. rings especially true today as ongoing acts of violence and injustice continue to threaten the lives and livelihoods of the people in the Ukraine.
As a public and historically Black institution, Bowie State University has always stood for opportunity, freedom and support of the public good, instilling in our students a commitment to become contributing members of society even after graduation. Since its founding in 1865, BSU has focused on equality and justice with a renewed commitment to ensuring social justice both in America and abroad in recent years.
Today, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, we are reminded of the women of the Ukraine as they play an integral role in leading their country and safeguarding its democracy.
Let us remember those whose life and liberty have been lost in the fight and those for whom the fight continues. We must use this period of unrest in the Ukraine as an opportunity to speak out against injustice. May our actions contribute to securing the equal rights and freedoms we all deserve as human beings.
