USM Announces COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements
April 23, 2021
The University System of Maryland today announced that COVID-19 vaccination will be required for all eligible students, faculty and staff returning to USM institutions this fall.
Chancellor Perman, in a meeting with the Board of Regents, said that requiring the COVID vaccine is “our best tool” in the fight against the virus and “critical in our safe return to campus.” You can view his full statement here.
We support this important step for a unified foundation that strengthens our efforts at Bowie State to keep our community safe as we move to achieve the robust campus experience we envisioned for the fall outlined in the plan shared earlier this week. Many details to implement the vaccine requirement are still to be determined, including accommodations for health and religious exceptions. Additional information will be communicated as it becomes available.
We already have plans underway to provide access to the vaccine on campus to our students, faculty and staff. Our first vaccine clinic is scheduled for Monday, April 26, and other dates will be available as we gain access to the vaccine from providers. We encourage all of our students, faculty and staff to also seek the vaccine at any of the sites now available across the state.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Bowie State University and support of our efforts to keep the campus safe. If you have any questions, please email covid19@bowiestate.edu
