A Message from the President
Bowie State Plans for Winter and Spring Athletic Competition
I would like to make the Bowie State University community aware that the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) today announced its decision to delay the start of all winter sports seasons and to reverse plans to sponsor football and men’s and women’s cross-county competition in the spring.
I know that the BSU community had very much looked forward to football competition this academic year to build on our championship season in fall 2019. While this is disappointing, I support the decision of the CIAA Board of Directors and its commitment to assuring the health, safety and well-being for our student-athletes and athletic staff.
Winter sports seasons will include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, and women’s bowling. Women’s volleyball will also proceed in the spring season. These competitions will be conducted with the recommended safety measures.
We remain committed to all of our BSU athletes who will not have a season during these unprecedented times. We will fully support their continued conditioning and practice, so they will be ready for competition next fall.
