A Message from the President
Thank You for Collaborative Effort to Build Partnership With Island of Sint Maarten
I’d like to thank and commend the engaged support of Dean Rhonda Jeter, College of Education, and Dean George Acquaah, College of Arts and Sciences, who along with several of their faculty were instrumental in the collaborative efforts to develop mutually beneficial program proposals with the Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performing Arts on the island of Sint Maarten.
Over the course of the past week, a team of Bowie State University faculty and administrators joined me on a trip to Sint Maarten to formalize a partnership with the Charlotte Brookson. This new partnership aims to enhance the fine and performing arts education programs of this local high school and establish a pipeline for students to enroll at BSU in addition to cultural exchanges with BSU students and faculty.
Along with Dr. Jeter and Dr. Acquaah, members of the BSU delegation who supported the numerous presentations in Sint Maarten, including to a session of Parliament, were:
- Gail Bassette, BSU director of economic development & strategic engagement;
- Sean Coleman, associate dean for student success, College of Education;
- Lynne Long, chair and Dr. Jacqueline Sweeney, associate professor, Department of Teaching Learning & Professional Development; and
- Professor Tewodross M. Williams, chair, Department of Fine and Performing Arts.
I look forward to sharing more through our campus communications platforms about the exciting opportunities this partnership will offer to expand cross-cultural engagement for BSU students and faculty.
