(BOWIE, Md.) – From a collage uncovering the influence of African art on Picasso to animation depicting slices of hip-hop culture, a unique Faculty Art Exhibition showcases the breadth of collective talents of the Bowie State University visual arts faculty. An artist talk is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8.

Running through March 15, the exhibition is a celebration of the professional contributions of the faculty from three programs – fine arts; visual communication and digital media arts (VCDMA); and theater. The exhibition’s curator, Professor Clayton Lang, brought the diverse selection of media together in a way that highlights similar themes in artistic expression.

Many pieces reflect post-Modernist conceptual art that challenge us to think and reflect. Several artists use typography in their artworks, but in different ways. Still others continue the traditions of realism.

The participating faculty artists are: Danielle Brown, Kristine Dennino, Tamara De Silva, Amina Hammonds, Kevin Holder, Kathryn Kawecki, Clayton Lang, Gina Marie Lewis, Tewodross Melchishua Williams, E. Clark Mester, Planta (Jacqueline Reeder), Gail Shaw-Clemons, Art Vidrine, Robert Ward, Jennifer White-Johnson and Rodney Williams. Guest artist, Rebecca Bailey (’15), is the administrative assistant for the Department of Fine and Performing Arts and a talented artist whose works speak to the issues of women and society at large.
