Top 10 HBCU Campus Queens to be Featured in Upcoming Issue

(BOWIE, Md.) – Want to see Bowie State University featured in an upcoming issue of Ebony magazine? Vote for Miss Bowie State Sheila Matthews in the 2016-2017 HBCU Campus Queens online contest.

Matthews is one of 62 students vying to be the top 10 campus queens who will be featured in an upcoming issue of Ebony magazine. The annual competition recognizes campus queens for being role models of beauty and ambition, while highlighting the importance of an HBCU education. The contest website features profiles of each of the students, including their extracurricular activities and career goals and a short video.

Bowie State supporters can vote for Matthews up to three times per day through January 15, 2017. Use #EbonyCampusQueens2016 to spread the word to your networks and encourage people to support Miss Bowie State.

A junior communications major, Matthews dreams of someday becoming a news anchor on NBC’s "Today Show" and later being appointed White House press secretary. In her profile video, Matthews describes how she uses her platform to empower women on campus to pursue their goals. She has hosted events to encourage young women to dress professionally and to provide a safe space for them discuss issues they face.

The last Miss Bowie State to be featured in Ebony magazine’s Campus Queens issue was Erica Johnson (‘14).
