(BOWIE, Md.) – The Bowie State University football team received a berth into the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 playoffs for the second consecutive season on Sunday, a day after the Bulldogs captured their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) title. The Bulldogs (9-2) will face the Tigers of West Alabama University (8-3) next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bulldogs Stadium.
In 2017, Bowie State hosted Delta State in a NCAA playoff game, falling to the Statemen 45-35.
Bowie State is looking to continue a record-breaking season into post-season play. Before receiving a berth to the 2018 playoffs, the Bulldogs secured the CIAA championship victory, defeating Fayetteville State 30-10.
From the opening kick-off, the Bulldogs never looked back. Bowie State's Amir Hall won Nationwide Most Valuable Player with four total touchdowns with 180 yards passing and 139 yards rushing. Hall tied a CIAA Championship record three rushing touchdowns.
"It was a great accomplishment to win the CIAA Championship yesterday and put ourselves in position to host a D2 Region playoff again," said Bowie State head coach Damon Wilson.
