Bowie State Names a New Vice President for Administration and Finance
Anthony Savia Brings More Than 30 Years of Experience to Bowie State

(BOWIE, Md.) – Bowie State University has named a higher education leader in fiscal and administrative management as the new vice president of administration and finance.
Anthony Savia will assume the role of Bowie State’s chief financial officer at the helm of the Division of Administration and Finance on Sept. 4, 2018. He will be responsible for ensuring that the university maintains ethical administrative, financial and business practices, as well as overseeing the offices of budget and finance, human resources, facilities management, controller, and student accounts, among others. He will also lead the university’s master planning process, capital improvement program, and climate commitment and sustainability initiatives.
“I am very pleased that Mr. Savia has made the decision to come on board and provide his expertise and leadership to this important division at BSU,” said Bowie State University President Aminta H. Breaux. “He brings a wealth of knowledge to further advance the Racing to Excellence vision.”
Savia comes to Bowie State after serving more than 30 years in administration and finance at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). Most recently as assistant dean of finance and administration for the School of Public Policy, he helped develop and implement a program to construct the school’s new public policy building.
His other previous roles at UMD include: director of admissions for the School of Public Policy; director of finance, administration and education technology services in the College of Education; and acting deputy assistant director of financial services, architecture, engineering, and construction.

Savia holds a master’s degree in management and a bachelor’s degree in business and management from the University of Maryland University College.
