Bowie State University Enjoys a Historic High Number of Students

BSU’s Largest Student Body Marks Increasing Recognition of Educational Quality

(BOWIE, Md.) – Bowie State University has made history with a record overall student body of 6,320 this academic year, reflecting an increase in the recognition of the university’s educational value and quality.

The total student enrollment increased by nearly 3 percent, driven in part by a 2-percent boost in undergraduate students to 5,308, including 898 new first-time, full-time freshmen. The number of new freshmen dropped slightly since last year’s record new first-year student enrollment of 1,075. The number of returning students lifted the overall undergraduate enrollment to a two-year high. The number of graduate students also increased to 1,012, up 5 percent since last year.

Bowie State University continues to rank among the nation’s best comprehensive universities. The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education and BestColleges.com recently included Bowie State among Maryland’s best four-year colleges or universities. U.S. News and World Report listed Bowie State among this year’s top 30 historically black colleges and universities. 

The recent enrollment surge signals a growing awareness of the value of a Bowie State University education.
