Bowie State Women's Bowling Rallies to Capture 5th Straight CIAA Championship

Championship Marks the Most Consecutive Wins in CIAA & Bulldogs' 9th Overall

Under the leadership of head coach Andrew Campbell, the Bulldogs won the double-elimination tournament and went undefeated in Saturday’s opening rounds. Bowie State defeated Livingstone 4-0, Virginia State 4-3 and Virginia Union 4-1 and had to wait to see who would be their opponent in the Championship Round.

Well, it came as no surprise the Bulldogs would end up facing Southern Division champion Fayetteville State Broncos for all the marbles. The Broncos rolled to a game one victory over the Bulldogs with a score of 151-137 to open round six.

Bowie State relied on spares in game three to give them a 152-136 win over FSU. Tying the game 110-all in the 7th frame, the Bulldogs battled to take game four, 154-147. With the match tied two-all, the stakes were high in game five for both teams. Despite five consecutive strikes in frames 3-7 for Fayetteville State, the final frame was vital as Bowie State edged the Broncos 190-187 game five.

Game six came down to the final frame. The Bulldogs battled to the end, taking a 191-180 win over the Broncos, claiming the 2019 CIAA Championship Title.

Senior Diamond Carter and freshman Cayla Snowden were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Carter was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Championships for the second year in a row.
