(BOWIE, Md.) – Four top Army ROTC cadets will represent Bowie State University in the largest-ever National Army Commissioning Ceremony later this month, recognizing the achievements of more than 1,000 top cadets from around the country.

Cadet Jacob Davis is one of about 200 cadets selected to attend a special in-person ceremony at the Pentagon on Friday, June 12, while cadets Brittney Andrews, Jesse Harr and Leah Spivery will join the virtual event. The select cadets rank in the top 20 percentile among their peers nationwide and will receive commissions as second lieutenants. Not only will the National Commissioning Ceremony honor the best of the nation’s 2020 class of ROTC cadets, but it will also commemorate the Army’s 245th birthday.

“I’m extremely proud each one of these cadets for personally going through what they did in their lives to get to this point, getting through all the Army training while being full-time students,” said LTC Wesley Knight, head of the BSU Department of Military Science. “I think these four are outstanding representations of leaders of character – people that will lead soldiers, America’s sons and daughters, and be fantastic leaders as they enter our Army.”

The BSU Army ROTC program will commission 14 cadets as officers on June 4, including the four cadets participating in the national ceremony. Soon afterward, the newly commissioned BSU cadets will begin their assignments at military bases around the world.

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in government, Davis will join the Medical Services Corps at Fort Hood in Texas. Andrews earns a bachelor’s degree in psychology and will join the Military Intelligence Corps, reporting to Fort Huachuca in Arizona after completing the Basic Officer Leader Course. Harr, who completes a bachelor’s degree in communications, will join the Cyber Corps, stationed at Fort Gordon in Georgia. Spivery, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in December 2019, will join the Signal Corps at Fort Hood in Texas.
