Newly Renovated Aquatics Center Expands Recreation Options

Olympic-size Pool Opens to the Campus Community & the Public

(BOWIE, Md.) – The newly renovated Bowie State University aquatics center, with an Olympic-size pool, is reopening to the campus community and the public in the Leonidas S. James Physical Education Complex, with open swim times and pool rentals for local teams.

The 25-yard, eight-lane pool will open for students with the Big Drip Pool Grand Opening celebration Thursday, March 5 from 4-8 p.m. Starting Monday, March 9, the pool will maintain open swim times for students, faculty, staff and the public, tentatively sometime from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday - Friday. A schedule will posted on bsubulldogs.com. Safety measures, to include having a certified lifeguard on duty, will ensure that guests enjoy their experience.

Pool guests will enjoy renovated locker rooms. The aquatics center will also add fee-based classes like water aerobics with certified instructors. Mark Wascavage, the aquatics coordinator, is excited to welcome the local swim teams to rent lanes for practices.

In addition to the aquatics center opening, expanded recreational programming is now available to the campus community, including fitness classes, such as Zumba, spin and yoga. Students can also participate in structured intramural sports activities, such as flag football, softball, soccer and dodgeball.
