Aa’Khai Hollis Named HBCU White House Initiative Scholar

BSU Student to Participate in the 2023 HBCU Scholar Recognition Program

(BOWIE, Md.) – Bowie State’s Aa’Khai Hollis, a sophmore biology major in the natural science department, has been selected by the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities to participate in the 2023 HBCU Scholar Recognition Program. The program recognizes outstanding student leaders and further empowers them with tools for excellence.

“I feel joy in being selected to participate in the program,” said Hollis, and a native of Wilmington, Delaware. “It will play a role in what I want to do in life, which is to advance minority spaces and show minorities that we have a place at the table.”

As a 2023 HBCU Scholar, Aa’Khai and the other selected HBCU scholars will serve as student ambassadors for the Initiative and the institutions they represent ensuring information, resources and opportunities are distributed through their campuses. They will also be invited to attend the 2023 Annual National HBCU Week Conference workshops designed to expose the students to best practices in leadership, professional development, workforce development and HBCU excellence. Additionally, students will be invited to participate in monthly master classes hosted by the Initiative, its partners; and network with representatives from federal agencies and the private sector to showcase their talents.
