(BOWIE, Md.) – Myles Frost, the winner of a 2022 Tony Award for his lead role and portrayal of Michael Jackson in MJ: The Musical, received the Dean’s Student Excellence Award from the College of Arts & Sciences at its 12th Annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Ceremony on Monday evening. It is the first time that an award has been conferred to a student.

Frost, the only student recognized at the event, was among over 50 recipients who received awards presented to faculty, staff and alumni by the College of Arts and Sciences Dean George Acquaah.

“I am truly honored to be the first student at Bowie State to receive the prestigious Student Excellence Award from the Dean,” said Frost. “It’s all about the art, and my goal is to inspire young and old with my work.  “If you make the work greater than yourself, everything else will fall into place.”

“The College of Arts and Sciences has been home to many exceptionally talented, hardworking and successful students,” said Acquaah. “However, Mr. Frost’s achievements have been unprecedented since he is the youngest person to receive a Tony Award in addition to being a Grammy Award nominee. He is an amazing talent and the faculty and staff of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts (DFPA) and the College are enormously proud of his stellar accomplishments.”

Frost is a multi-talented actor, singer, songwriter, producer, audio engineer and student in Bowie State’s Music Technology program. His acting and music credits include All In, where he played the role of an autistic 14-year-old child, and Netflix’s hit show Family Reunion (Seasons 1 and 2). In the fall of 2021, he appeared in the biopic movie Big Fifty: The Delrhonda Hood Story. Frost was a presenter at the 2022 Grammy’s Pre-show and was recently cast in Ava Duvernay’s upcoming film, Caste, inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.

“I play Trayvon Martin in Caste,” said Frost. “In this role I’m able to shed light on and tell the story of who Trayvon Martin was from his point of view. It’s amazing because I will be the first person to bring his story to life on film.”
