Students Return to Campus for Start of 2023-2024 School Year

New Degree and Certificate Programs Spur Student and Faculty Growth

(BOWIE, Md.) – Bowie State University started to come alive this week as students return to campus for the 2023 – 2024 academic school year. Over 1,900 students will be living in on-campus housing while 180 students will be housed at the Nine in College Park and Capital Technology University in Laurel with over 400 students on the housing waiting list.

“We’re growing due to many of our new certificate and degree programs which is translating into more students wanting to attend Bowie State and live on campus,” said Brian Clemmons, vice president of enrollment and student affairs at Bowie State.

Bachelor of Science degrees can be earned in philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE); software engineering; cyber operations engineering; data science, health services administration; and public health informatics and technology (PHIT). Master’s degrees in applied biotechnology and molecular biology, and internet of things & internet technologies will now be offered, in addition to a Ph.D. in counselor education & supervision with specialization in social justice counseling.

Students can now earn post-bachelors certificates in public health informatics and clinical pastoral counseling. Undergraduates can expand their skills with upper division certificates in cybersecurity, cloud computing and internet of things.

In addition, 25 professors have joined Bowie State this fall as new faculty members to support the new programs and ensure all students continue to receive a high quality education.
