Manish Kumar Appointed Vice President for Administration and Finance at Bowie State

Savvy Higher Education Leader Brings Impressive Background

(BOWIE, Md.) – Manish Kumar, a veteran finance administrator, has been appointed Vice President for Administration and Finance at Bowie State University where he is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the university’s financial and administrative services.

He joins Bowie State after serving almost five years at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) as Vice President for Finance & Administration supervising all aspects of the institution’s financial affairs. Prior to NEIU, Kumar was at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the College of Arts and Sciences and its Foundation overseeing the operating and foundation funds totaling more than $1.6 billion.

“Mr. Kumar is adept at managing university finances,” said Bowie State President Aminta Breaux. “He brings years of higher education experience to our campus and we look forward to his guidance as the university continues to grow.”

Kumar also served as the CFO and Head of HR and Administration at Rutgers University Business School and Director of Strategic Initiatives for the College of Art and Architecture at the University of Idaho. He has private sector experience with assignments at American Express, AAA insurance and State Street Global Advisors.

“I’ve dedicated my career towards accessibility of education and opening doors to students who otherwise could not pursue and succeed in higher education without bearing significant personal and financial hardship,” said Kumar. “I look forward to helping advance the goals of the university and ensuring students receive a high-quality education.”

Kumar earned his MBA at Northeastern University and is currently working towards his Ph.D. in supply chain management at the University of Greenwich in London.
