AccessLex Institute Awards Grant to Bowie State University’s Pre-law Society

Funding Will Help Students With Law School and Other Legal Aspirations

(BOWIE, Md.)—The Bowie State University Prelaw Society is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a two-year, $299,750 Diversity Pathway Intervention Grant by AccessLex Institute to support the BSU Prelaw Pathway Initiative, aimed at building student preparation for law school and legal career opportunities. 

The BSU Prelaw Pathway Initiative is designed to provide comprehensive support to students pursuing careers in law. Through mentorship, advising, academic resources, experiential learning and professional development opportunities, the initiative seeks to empower students to achieve their full potential. 

“This funding from AccessLex Institute has the potential to revolutionize our Prelaw Society by providing greater and earlier access to students who want to attend law school and seek a career in legal work,” said Dr. Carmen Walker, associate professor of government and principal investigator on the grant. “The funding will also help remove financial barriers to many who would not have been able to even imagine attending law school,” Walker said. 

For more than 40 years, AccessLex Institute has been committed to improving access to legal education. Their support will enable the Bowie State University Prelaw Society to not only expand its reach and impact by offering vital resources and guidance to aspiring law students, but also to assess the outcomes of these efforts for continuous improvement.
