Bowie State Alumnus Charles Hollingsworth Builds Smart Solutions at Hollent Wireless

Bowie State University alumnus Charles Hollingsworth knows a thing or two about navigating complex paths. From an early career in government to founding a public safety communications company, his journey has been defined by reinvention, persistence, and vision. Now at the helm of Hollent Wireless, a technology company specializing in Motorola radio solutions, Charles offers Bowie students a firsthand look at where determination, adaptability, and innovation can lead.
Grounded in logic, powered by technology, and driven to innovate.
Charles began his educational journey at the University of Central Arkansas before transferring to several different institutions, including Ohio Dominican and the University of Maryland. Eventually, he landed at Bowie State University, where he earned his master’s degree between 2016 and 2019. That experience, he says, gave him the structure and focus he needed to move forward. “Bowie helped solidify what I wanted to do and gave me the tools to get there,” he explains.
Prior to launching his company, Charles worked in a state program where he reviewed bid proposals submitted by small businesses. “I was young, and I remember reading these proposals and realizing something important — if they could do it, so could I,” he says. That eye-opening experience planted the seed for entrepreneurship.
He later co-founded a business focused on audio-visual services, which over time evolved into Hollent Wireless. Today, the company is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned and Minority Business Enterprise and an authorized Motorola Solutions ValueAdded Reseller. Hollent specializes in two-way radio communications and rugged infrastructure equipment, with a growing presence in the public safety sector.
One of the defining characteristics of Hollent Wireless is its use of artificial intelligence and automation. “Since 2022, AI has completely transformed how we operate,” Charles says. “We’ve streamlined our operations, improved efficiency, and made smarter decisions faster.” For current students, he offers this advice: “Don’t be afraid of AI — use it. Learn how to work with it, talk to it, and build on what it gives you. It can be a personal assistant, a strategist, even a creative partner.”
Charles is also passionate about soft skills, emphasizing their importance alongside technical proficiency. “Listening, communication, adaptability — these are just as important as the tools you use,” he notes.
Though Hollent Wireless operates with a lean team, Charles is open to offering internships to Bowie students and staying connected with the university community. “There’s a lot of talent at Bowie,” he says. “I’d love to help students gain hands-on experience and exposure to this kind of work.”
From navigating multiple schools to launching a tech-forward business, Charles Hollingsworth’s path is a reminder that success is often about staying flexible, learning continuously, and seizing opportunities when they come. His story is one of clarity, focus, and the kind of forward momentum that Bowie State University is proud to be part of.
