Bowie State University Launches Boldly Forward Strategic Plan

Building on a 160-Year Legacy, the Plan Advances Academic Excellence, Research Innovation, Student Success and Economic Impact

(BOWIE, Md.) — Bowie State University has unveiled “Boldly Forward,” a comprehensive new strategic plan that charts the university’s course for the next four fiscal years. As Bowie celebrates its 160th anniversary, this plan builds on the institution’s rich legacy while advancing a bold vision for the future.

“Our Boldly Forward Strategic Plan represents our collective commitment to expand opportunity, champion innovation and transform lives through public education,” said Dr. Aminta H. Breaux, president of Bowie State. “We are building on a proud 160-year legacy while embracing the challenges and possibilities of a rapidly changing world. Located in the heart of Prince George’s County, we are more than a university. Bowie State is an economic engine generating over $351 million each year for our region and sending 80% of our graduates into careers right here in Maryland. Boldly Forward is our call to embrace change, ignite new possibilities and ensure that Bowie State’s impact echoes for generations to come.”

The Boldly Forward FY26-29 Strategic Plan reflects Bowie State’s mission to educate, empower and inspire a diverse student population and its vision to expand recognition as a national model for academic excellence, research innovation and student success. The plan focuses on four strategic goals:

1. Advancing Academic Distinction – Bowie State is committed to enhancing its reputation as a center of excellence in research, education and innovation. The university will strive to enhance its academic programs, faculty development and student experiences to meet the evolving demands of higher education and the workforce.
   
   
2. Transforming the Student Experience – Bowie State will transform the student experience by enhancing internal processes and campus-wide resources that contribute to students’ academic, well-being and career-related needs.
   
   
3. Fostering a Culture of Inclusivity, Equity, Civic Engagement & Social Justice – Bowie State will build a diverse and inclusive campus environment that champions equity, civic engagement and social justice. The university will implement actions that ensure all campus community members feel valued, respected and empowered to participate actively in societal and civic matters.
   
   
4. Ensuring Bowie State’s Future Through Growth & Innovation – Bowie State will evolve into a model institution known for its innovative community engagement, philanthropy, work environment and partnerships.

The strategic plan guides Bowie State from fiscal years 2026 to 2029, ensuring the university continues to serve as a catalyst for economic growth, community advancement and lifelong opportunity.
