Central Maryland HBCU Climate Career Expo Unites Students and Employers in Sustainability

Bowie State, Morgan State, and Coppin State Unite to Connect Students with Sustainability-Focused Career Opportunities

(BOWIE, Md.) — Bowie State University, in a dynamic partnership with Morgan State University and Coppin State University, proudly hosted the Central Maryland HBCU Climate Career Expo, a transformative gathering that connected students from every academic discipline with more than 30 forward-thinking employers dedicated to sustainability and environmental stewardship. 

The groundbreaking expo unfolded as a vibrant nexus of opportunity, where Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) showcased their commitment to cultivating diverse talent for a greener tomorrow. Students mingled with representatives from government agencies and nonprofit organizations, each eager to tap into the rich reservoir of potential within the HBCU community. Employers illuminated pathways to internships, full-time roles and professional growth, all woven together by a shared vision of advancing environmental literacy and sustainability. 

Jabari Walker, the visionary event organizer, underscored the expo’s mission with palpable passion. “This event was created to empower HBCU students with the knowledge and connections needed to thrive in sustainability-focused careers,” he said. “We aim to inspire students to realize their potential in leading critical environmental initiatives for a better world.” 

The Climate Career Expo pulsed with purpose, spotlighting the pivotal role of HBCUs in shaping the next generation of leaders poised to tackle the pressing challenges of climate and sustainability. Beyond a mere career fair, it was a celebration of innovation and inclusivity — a clarion call for students to step boldly into industries that promise not only professional fulfillment but also a lasting impact on the planet.
