(BOWIE, Md.)—Kyle Jones, a Bowie State University alumnus who is no stranger to the spotlight and known across the DMV and beyond as “Kyle on the Mic,” has turned his love for entertainment into a career that blends authenticity, showmanship and hustle. From his earliest days on campus to working red carpets and national broadcasts, Jones’ journey is a masterclass in staying bold, consistent and unapologetically yourself.

He began making his mark at Bowie State as Mr. Freshman, eventually becoming Mr. Bowie State University. “I really used that opportunity to grow my talent and leave my footprint on campus,” he recalled.

His hosting journey started early and evolved as he found his voice. Originally a theater major, Jones transitioned to communications with a focus on broadcast journalism. “I realized I had a gift for engaging crowds and being on the mic,” he said. “I’ve had it since I was a kid. By the time I was in high school, it just clicked.”

The name “Kyle on the Mic” emerged during his senior year and quickly grew into a personal brand. Inspired by radio personalities and a desire to merge entertainment with identity, he made it his mission to turn that brand into a business. “Once I chose that name, I started taking myself seriously,” Jones said. “I knew what I wanted and just kept sharpening my skills.”

His high-energy hosting style is what sets him apart. Jones credits his success to a blend of interaction, spontaneity and pure showmanship. “When I’m hosting, we’re not just talking; we’re singing, we’re dancing, we’re moving. I’m not reading off a script. I’m giving people an experience.”

Still, the road hasn’t always been easy. One of the biggest lessons he’s learned as an entrepreneur is that you can’t please everyone. “This is a very people-pleasing industry, but I’ve learned that not everyone can go with you as you grow,” he said. “You’ve got to keep pushing regardless.”

Now working with brands like BET and Fox 5, and having interviewed stars like Michael B. Jordan and Keke Palmer, Jones is focused on growing his brand beyond the DMV. His advice for other Bowie students and alumni? “Be consistent, stay creative, and most importantly, be yourself. The ones who love it and stick with it are the ones who last.”
