Maryland Department of Health-Bowie State University Graduate Certificate Partnership
The inaugural cohort comprises thirty-three (33) employees from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) who began graduate studies at Bowie State University in Spring 2025. Of these, seventeen (17) enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Public Health Informatics (PBC-PHIS), and sixteen (16) enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Project Management (PBC-PM).
The PBC-PM program will graduate its first cohort in Summer 2025, while the PBC-PHIS program will graduate its first cohort in Winter 2025. The 2nd cohort will start in Spring 2026. This initiative stems from the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in June 2024 between Bowie State University (BSU) and MDH’s Office of the Deputy Secretary for Public Health. The agreement extends through September 2027 and allocates up to $1.2 million to cover tuition and fees for MDH employees participating in the two selected graduate certificate programs: PBC-PHIS and PBC-PM. By the end of the agreement period, between 90 and 120 employees are expected to be educated and trained through this partnership.
The certificates equip participants with professional competencies that enhance their career growth and enable them to make meaningful contributions to the Maryland Department of Health.
