Masons Donate $2,500 to Bowie State University During Their Bicentennial Celebration

Fraternal Organization Upholds Legacy of Supporting HBCUs

(BOWIE, Md.) — Bowie State University received a $2,500 donation from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Maryland Masons during the fraternity’s 200th anniversary celebration, recognizing the organization’s enduring commitment to leadership, scholarship and community service in the Black community and among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  

As part of their bicentennial initiative, the Masons awarded donations to each of Maryland’s four HBCUs to support student scholarships and promote educational advancement, including Bowie State University Scholarship Opportunities. 

“Bowie State University is very appreciative and thankful for the donation Maryland Prince Hall Grand Lodge Masons have made to assist our students,” said Brent Swinton, Vice President for Philanthropic Engagement. “We look forward to enhancing our relationship with the Masons and working with them over the upcoming months and years.” 

The Prince Hall Fraternity, founded in 1775, is the oldest and largest African American Masonic organization, with more than 300,000 members worldwide. Since its founding in Maryland in 1825, the organization has played a vital role in advancing youth development, higher education and civic engagement.
