Sincerely, Love Showcased Mental Wellness and Community at Bowie State

Bowie State students, faculty and community members recently came together for a day of connection, reflection and self-care at the Sincerely, Love Mental Health Summit on Oct. 10. The in-person event, held in the Student Center, explored how love and community play vital roles in supporting mental health and overall well-being.
The summit featured a full day of engaging panels, performances and interactive experiences focused on mental wellness and belonging. Attendees participated in discussions such as The Impact of Love on Mental Health and Love Culture vs. Cancel Culture. The event also included spoken-word performances, live music, wellness stations, vendor experiences, chair massages, shea-butter and fragrance-making activities, stress-relief spaces and a 360-degree photo booth.
“The summit was a powerful reminder that love and mental wellness go hand in hand,” said Jermaine Bookhart, a senior at Bowie State. “Being in a space where we could openly discuss mental health, celebrate culture and practice self-care was inspiring. I left feeling more connected to my community and motivated to support others.”
Organizers said the goal was to create a safe and welcoming space for honest dialogue and shared experiences. Students and community members connected with mental health advocates, local leaders and campus resources while learning tools to promote lasting, positive change.
The Sincerely, Love Summit underscored Bowie State’s ongoing commitment to mental health awareness, community engagement and holistic wellness. By combining education, creativity and meaningful conversation, the event highlighted the transformative power of love in building stronger, healthier communities.
