Wellpoint Fuels Bowie State University’s Nutrition Lounge with Vital Support

(BOWIE, Md.) — Bowie State University has welcomed a generous $10,000 donation from health insurance giant Wellpoint, a lifeline aimed at bolstering the university’s Nutrition Lounge. This infusion of funds will stock the pantry with wholesome food, serving as a nourishing boost for students who are experiencing food insecurity on campus. 

Across the nation’s college and university landscapes, the struggle for sustenance casts a stark shadow. The National Center for Education Statistics reveals a sobering reality: roughly 23 percent of undergraduate students and 12 percent of graduate students face some form of food insecurity, their academic dreams weighed down by empty stomachs. At Bowie State, the Nutrition Lounge stands as a sanctuary, and this donation promises to amplify its impact.  

Ina Ramos, the spirited manager of BSU’s Nutrition Lounge, radiates gratitude for Wellpoint’s contribution. “The Nutrition Lounge provides a place for students to relax, study and have access to enjoy free healthy food,” she said. “Wellpoint’s generous support will make a difference and reduce stress and anxiety because of a lack of food.” Her words paint a vivid picture of a haven where nourishment meets peace of mind.
