Lambda Pi Eta Welcomes New Inductees in Celebration of Academic Excellence

Bowie State University’s Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, which serves as the National Communication Honor Society, welcomed its newest class of inductees during a Fall 2025 ceremony held Dec. 10 in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center. The event recognized students who exemplify academic achievement, leadership and a strong commitment to the field of communication while celebrating their academic progress and future aspirations.
Students selected for induction are required to maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA, complete at least 12 credits of communication coursework and meet the society’s overall academic standards. Among this year’s inductees were communications majors Sydney Taylor and Ashali Edwards, whose accomplishments reflect sustained academic focus, professional development and engagement within the Department of Communications.
Taylor, a public relations concentration student graduating in May 2026, described the induction as a meaningful milestone that affirmed her academic efforts and hands-on experience in the field. “Being inducted feels incredible,” Taylor said. “I’ve been doing communications work for the past three years, and this moment made all that hard work feel worthwhile.”
Edwards, also a public relations concentration student and a member of the Class of 2027, reflected on the personal growth and discipline that contributed to her recognition, noting that the skills she has developed will support her future goals, including plans to attend law school. She emphasized perseverance, consistency and maintaining focus as essential qualities for students navigating both academic and personal challenges. “Life won’t slow down for you, so stay focused on growth and perseverance,” Edwards said.
Both students credited Professor Talisha Dunn-Square, a lecturer in the Department of Communications, with helping them explore their creative interests and clarify their professional direction through coursework that emphasized experimentation, self-discovery and practical application. Faculty leaders highlighted the inductees’ dedication to scholarship and professionalism, noting that Lambda Pi Eta represents the highest standard of achievement within communication studies and reflects the department’s commitment to academic excellence.
The ceremony was led by Dr. Otis Thomas, professor of communications and chair of the Department of Communications, and concluded with a reception and photographs. Inductees were encouraged to continue building on their academic success as they prepare for graduate study, professional careers and leadership roles beyond Bowie State University.
