Bowie State University Closed on Jan. 26 Due to Inclement Weather

Due to inclement weather, Bowie State University will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. All classes, office operations and on-campus activities are canceled. Residence halls will remain open. Karima Haynes

Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator, Print Journalism 

Karima Haynes, Assistant Professor, is the coordinator for Print Journalism. She joined the faculty in fall 2006 as a lecturer in print journalism. She serves as Coordinator of the Print Journalism Concentration and advisor to The Spectrum student newspaper. She is a former adjunct professor of journalism at Biola University, Regent University, University of Maryland at College Park, and Bowie State University.

Before transitioning  into the classroom, Haynes was a Staff Writer for the Los Angeles TimesEbony, and the Providence Journal-Bulletin. She has two decades of experience as a newspaper reporter, magazine writer, essayist, book reviewer, copy editor, news editor, photo editor, and page designer.

She holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications with a concentration in print journalism from Clark Atlanta University and a master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She earned a doctorate in education from Bowie State University.
