The Black Embrace

By Juliana Pianim

There is
Lots of stuff we don’t talk about
Lots of stuff we post about
Lots of stuff we may dream about
Many things we think about
But did you ever think about
How this country came about
What this country holds
All the old stories that have been told
All the history that unfolds
Or
Maybe they were just lies that the system tries to hide
Maybe they were lies that our eyes couldn’t realize
Then they ban books for their sake? Or is this a sorta apology for their mistakes?
Then They treat racism as if doesn’t relate or hold any weight
Then they kill us and hide behind the badge so we can’t retaliate
But still, we choose to hold onto one another and embrace
