Public Administration (MPA)
The Future of Public Policy Starts With You
Serving the public isn’t for everyone. Some might even describe it as a calling. If you’re one of the select few who want to be a force for change, look no further than Bowie State. Our Master of Public Administration (MPA) program helps you rewrite the direction of your career. We teach you the skills you’ll need to implement public change. BSU graduates build careers at federal, state, and local government agencies. You’ll find our MPA alumni working for the State Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice and the Department of Commerce. Many Bowie State graduates walk off campus and right into mid- and executive-level jobs. What will you accomplish?
Our MPA program is accredited by the Network of School of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA).
Our MPA program will teach you how to:
- Gather information to review and develop new policies
- Analyze and draft effective statements
- Study the vast array of public systems and examine the way governments obtain and convey information
- Identify different forms of technology and manage how citizens interact digitally with various levels of government
- Administer services to the general public in a compassionate way
Earning an advanced degree at Bowie State is more than learning a new set of skills. We want you to take that knowledge and apply it.

Favorite Part of the Program So Far: I love how hands-on and personal the faculty and staff are at Bowie State. We can solve real-world problems with the concepts that we learn in class through research.
Why Bowie State is Great: What attracted me to Bowie State is how affordable and hands-on the university is. I went here for undergrad as well with my BS in Business Management.
One Thing You Learned at BSU That Made an Impact: I learned how to think critically when it comes to understanding issues from different perspectives and articulating solutions to real-world problems.
Advice for Prospective Students: It’s important to network, take advantage of all opportunities, and to remember that you determine your success.

The MPA program has both an applied and experiential feel for students. They’re not just studying the material. They’re out with the public creating change.
