Nasir Williams exemplifies leadership and achievement at Bowie State University. As president of the Public Relations Student Society of America Bowie State chapter and a student ambassador for the Communications department, he has led numerous initiatives and earned recognition for his contributions. He is graduating this winter with a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a concentration in strategic public relations, and he is preparing to take his next step in the Sales Manager Program at CarMax. Williams has applied the same discipline and drive that fuels his entrepreneurial and academic success to his future career goals.

Williams says his drive to be successful is partly due to the passing of his father when he was in the first grade and the passing of a close friend during his first year at Bowie State.

“They’re a big part of my story. I use them as motivation to continue to push forward because my schooling was very important to them,” Williams said.

Bowie State emphasizes an entrepreneurial spirit in all our programs, and Williams has fully embraced this mission during his time as a student. The knowledge and skills he gained from his communications major, along with his work ethics and determination, pushed him to start two businesses: a faith-based clothing line and a photography company.

“My communications education has helped my businesses grow and expand. I know how to talk to my customers in a better way,” he said.

Impact of the Bowie State Experience

In addition to his leadership and academic achievements, Williams has thrived personally and professionally thanks to the support and connections at Bowie State University. As PRSSA president, he attended the national PRSSA Icon Conference in Washington, D.C., which allowed him to gain experience networking with professionals of color in public relations.

“The conference was very impactful. People wanted to talk to me about what I do with my chapter,” Williams said.

He was also a fall 2024 initiate of Lambda Pi Eta, the official honor society of the National Communication Association.

Williams has grown his businesses — an apparel line and a photography company — with support from Bowie State students, faculty and staff.

“I book photography clients weekly from campus. I do things like graduation, fashion, events and lifestyle shoots — all from people on campus,” he said.

He has applied his education, leadership experience and entrepreneurial skills to multiple areas, achieving senior-level status in his sales position, and preparing to step into management.

“There are positions open in the corporate office where I can manage people, and I’m interested in taking those next steps,” he said. “I want to further my entrepreneurship. For a long time, it was just a passion.”

After graduation, Williams plans to join the Sales Manager Program at CarMax. He leaves Bowie State University ready for what comes next, grounded in the values, preparation and confidence he gained as a Bulldog.
