Unpacking Lauryn's Law for School Counselors

The Maryland School Counselor’s Association, in partnership with Bowie State, is offering a two-day course in alignment with House Bill 0947.

This course satisfies the Maryland State Legislation law HB 0947 and the COMAR regulation 13A.12.03.02 regarding school counselor certification/re-certification requiring that prior to the renewal or reinstatement of their current certificate, an educator certified as a school counselor shall provide coursework, professional development, or a continuing education unit required by COMAR regulation 13A.12.03.02 to address the need for intervention or referral in response to indicators of mental illness and behavioral distress including, but not limited to depression; trauma; violence; youth suicide; and substance abuse.

Participants can earn either 1 MSDE CPD or 15 National Board Certified Contact Hours. Courses do not require approval by the MSDE to be applied toward the requirements established in COMAR.
